The 3 Farz in Ghusl

How many farz in ghusl?

There are three farz (obligatory tasks) of Ghusl. Completing these three farz is necessary for Ghusl and without completing these three farz, Ghusl is not considered complete. These three farz are as follows!

1. Gargling (putting water in the mouth)

Gurgling is the first farz of Ghusl. Putting water in the mouth in such a way that the water reaches the entire mouth, so that the mouth can be completely cleaned.

How to rinse in ghusl

  • Take a little water into the mouth: and swish it around well to clean all parts of the mouth.
  • Rinse to reach the throat: without swallowing the water (rinse deeply if possible).
  • Spit out the water: and repeat if necessary, three times is generally considered preferable.

2. Putting water in the nose (Istinshaaq)

Second farz – Put water in the nose in such a way that the water reaches the upper bone of the nose, so that the nose can be completely cleaned.

How to Perform Istinshaaq in Ghusl

  • Take water in the right hand and gently sniff it up into the nostrils.
  • Inhale the water deeply, allowing it to reach the upper part of the nose, without causing discomfort.
  • Blow the water out and repeat the process, usually three times for thorough purification.

3. Washing the Entire Body

Third farz – Flush water over the entire body in such a way that no part of the body remains dry. Every part of the body should be washed thoroughly, especially those places where water is difficult to reach, such as the roots of the hair, elbows, knees, and the parts between the fingers.

How to Wash the Entire Body in Ghusl

  • Begin with the Intention (Niyyah): Start with a sincere intention in the heart to perform ghusl for the sake of purification.
  • Wash the Hands: Begin by washing both hands up to the wrists three times.
  • Wash Private Parts: Clean the private parts thoroughly to remove any impurities.
  • Perform Wudu (Ablution): Perform a complete wudu, similar to the one before prayer, except for washing the feet, which can be done at the end.
  • Wash the Right and Left Sides: Pour water over the right shoulder and side, then the left, making sure to rub and wash every part of the body. Repeat this process three times.
  • Wash the Head and Hair: Pour water over the head three times, ensuring that the water reaches the roots of the hair.
  • Ensure Complete Coverage: Use your hands to rub over all parts of the body, including between fingers and toes, behind the ears, and under any folds of skin.
